This webinar will focus on the timely topic of demographics and provide the audience with options and opportunities for the renewal of the industry's workforce. Providing an overview of some of the key points that were presented at the PaperWeek Panel, the objective will be to raise the profile HR challenge issue facing the sector, get a bigger picture view of the HR challenge facing the natural resources economy (ie: lots of competition for labour in coming years) and some of the actions that the sector/firms are doing to address these challenges.

James J. Farrell, graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. Prior to his current position, Jim Farrell was Assistant Deputy Minister of the Canadian Forest Service, Natural Resources Canada from 2006 to December, 2011. In that capacity, Jim was the Government of Canada’s senior executive responsible for the forest sector which included: the Canadian Forest Service with staff complement of close to 1,000 across Canada and annual budgets of up to $800.0M.

Jean-François LaRue, as the Chief Economist at FPAC, provides insights into the industry’s competitiveness and global outlook. He works on the sector’s Vision2020 mandate, and collaborates closely with FPAC staff on data collection and reporting for members and governments in order to effectively craft intelligent policy solutions. Before joining FPAC, Jean-François held several positions with the Government of Canada, including Director General of the LMI Directorate with HRSDC, and policy analyst with PCO and Finance.
