PAPTAC is pleased to announce Mr. Eric Ashby as the new Chairman of the Mill Managers’ Community. Mr. Ashby, currently the General Mill Manager of Domtar – Windsor, has a rich career within the pulp and paper industry. After obtaining Chemical Engineering degree at École Polytechnique in Montreal, a Masters in Pulp and Paper Engineering and an MBA, he occupied different positions within Domtar across Canada.
Due to his vast experience in people management, developing strategic plans, and implementing maintenance and operation processes in order to meet varied goals, we are confident he will bring this know-how to the Mill Managers’ Community leadership and that this will be reflected in the topics the Community will undertake.

Workforce renewal is definitely a global concern. In Canada, as in most industrialized countries, the workforce is aging, and quickly. Young workers are becoming a rare species. According to Statistics Canada, ten years from now, there may not be enough young people entering the workforce to replace those retiring.
PAPTAC, as the Canadian technical association serving the pulp and paper sector and representing the industry’s workers, is very aware of this situation and the decline of the current labour force.

Doug Reid
Sr. Process Engineer, Bleaching Chemicals

Mr. Doug Reid, Sr. Process Engineer Bleaching Chemicals within AkzoNobel has taken over the leadership of the PAPTAC Bleaching Community. Mr. Reid succeeds Mr. Paul Earl, a remarkable chairman who contributed to keep this Community one of the most fruitful and active among the other PAPTAC technical communities.
Mr. Doug Reid is an expert on Bleaching Chemicals and according to his several experiences he will ensure the successful continuity of this community by organizing F2F meetings, webinars and conferences in order to meet peers and facilitate personal interactions.
