This webinar will first review the fundamentals of winding principles, including the different controls available at the mill to improve winding quality and reduce defects. Key measurements of roll quality will also be reviewed. The seminar will also include some troubleshooting procedures to reduce nip induced defects such as crepe wrinkles, burst, corrugations, etc. Other common rolls defects occurring during winding such as dishing, core issues, out-of-round, bad start, etc. will be discussed. The influence of paper uniformity on winding operations and roll quality will also be analyzed. |
Frederic Parent Research leader FPInnovations |
Frederic Parent, Research Leader for the Web Performance Group at FPInnovations, received his Master degree in mechanical engineering (M.Sc.A.) from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1997. Since joining FPInnovations (formely the pulp and paper division Paprican) in 2000, his research activities have centered on paper machine runnability, and investigating how roll structure and web uniformity affects reeling and winding performance and also pressroom performance. His research activities led to the development of the Roll Testing Facility and more recently the Web and Roll Center. He is a member of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC) and the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec. |
