Over the past couple of weeks the industry has been hit by all kinds of news announcements regarding US duties on Canadian Softwood Lumber and SC Paper. - The Honourable James Carr, Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, issued a statement following the imposition by the U.S. Department of Commerce of duties on imports of certain Canadian softwood lumber products into the United States. The U.S. Department of Commerce has announced preliminary countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber. The duties, a response to a petition filed by the Committee Overseeing Action for Lumber International Trade Investigations or Negotiations (COALITION), are set at: West Fraser 24.12%, Canfor 20.26%, Tolko 19.5%, Resolute 12.82%, JD Irving 3.02%, and 19.88% for all other Canadian producers.
