We have received very positive comments for both the technical session and the roundtable. People had the feeling that they learned something during that day. I would like to thank Tom Mullen as well as all the participants.

However, nothing can be perfect and we had problems with the computer set-up for the technical session. We had to postponed one presentation in the afternoon prior to the roundtable, another speaker had to use overheads and we also lost time in between presentations. This is the best way to upset an audience.

I already mentioned this problem to Glen Black and I think that PAPTAC will have to modify their way of doing it. It is unacceptable that each speaker has to bring his own laptop or that one speaker has to share his own with everybody.

I propose that a formal letter should be sent to PAPTAC including the following recommendations:

• A computer (with CD drive) should be installed by PAPTAC in every conference room.
• Speakers should provide PowerPoint presentations in advance and they should be already loaded in the computer prior to the beginning of the session.
• If it is not the case, the speakers should bring a CD (no floppy) or slides or overheads with their PowerPoint presentation on it.
• If these recommendations cannot be implemented, perhaps we should go back to the good old slides for a while until the hotels and conference centres are able to provided an easy-to-use electronic system.
• PAPTAC should re-inforce the necessity of attending the Speakers' Breakfast and allow time for interaction between Chairman and Speakers.

This year we formed a jury of 6 members (2 research, 2 industry, 2 suppliers). The 2001 Howard Rapson Award winner is:

• Put on hit counters. Getting good momentum re: questions. Get a lot of questions and get summaries back. Should we ask them to give summary at Bleach Meeting? Time is an issue. Where would we put this? Let's organize them for Technical Sessions (Rae to organize) and fit in to ½ hour session. Try once and see if it works.

• Two presentations on magnesium sulfate that Chris is asking to put into morning after sub-committee meetings. Also methanol Vopak session needs to be accommodated.

• Kappa analyzer is main project. Stan Heimburger could not come.
• Dennis Owen and Murray Walters will be presenting ClO2 containment information. Will get survey out and compiled before next meeting.

• Ready to revise Protocol and Glossary.
• Dan has been trying to get interest from TAPPI without success for a single PAPTAC/TAPPI Protocol. Discussion took place concerning who might be the appropriate TAPPI person to work with, i.e. Richard Presley, Chairman or Barbara van Lierop?
• Concerned about papers not being presented by deadline so cannot review for protocol, content, adherence to PAPTAC rules. Bleach Cttee. should inform Rob Wood and Glen Black that we are enforcing deadlines for paper submission so that our Committee Chairs can review papers for their sessions properly. Don McCabe will send letter to PAPTAC.

• Course scheduled for Vancouver, October 2001. Norm Liebergott to lead.
• Tech. 2000 attracted 360 vs. 180 attendees.
• PAPTAC considering some level of computer-based courses, e.g. long-distance.
• Don't want to lose networking/one-on-one aspect of current courses.
• Dan Davies got a lot of positive response to his FAQ's re: H202 at PacWest. Rae believes this could be another good type of course.
• Description of value and difference between PAPTAC and TAPPI Bleaching Courses. PAPTAC is the why. TAPPI is the how.
