Don Olson has contacted most on list with corrections, etc., so list is as up-to- date as possible. Correction - Les Kosiak no longer at Smooth Rock now at Marathon. Will continue to have two lists – one more complete with Chairman and simplified one for website.

Bleaching Equipment

Murray Walters. 3 projects. FRP for Fall meeting. Craig Reed of Bacon Donaldson. Sensors – not getting off ground. Gerry Ferweda - accounting for chemical bleaching costs. Maybe Fall? MC pumping – dead.

Chris Kanters. ECF Best Practices completed. Ongoing projects. Safehandling of chemicals. None this time. Fall ’00 Stan Heimburger for peroxide. Safety incidents – nothing. High Kappa pulping plus O2 delig. vs. pulping only. Current projects: chemical removal and prevention of scale in the bleach plant. Benefits of mag. sulfate. New potential – Mill experiences of chemical optimization.

Bleaching Protocol

Dan Davies. Jean Bouchard updated us. Protocol distributed to ed. institutions. Price lowered for students via professors. Regional conferences to be reminded to use protocol. $209.60 final cost of booklet. English version distributed to all ed. institutions. French version available.

Teaching Bleaching

Rae Cunnington. Two items. Breakfast sessions. 60 first day 50 participants second day for this week. Pulp Bleaching Course. Miramichi, October 2 to 5. Report after tomorrow. Rod Inn - Miramichi. Subcommittee to also help organize topics for Fall meeting. Pulp washing course – 20 attendees, Annual Meeting.

Future Meetings

John Brazil. Dates for Fall ‘00 Meeting, Canfor, Monday, October 16-18. Ramada or Inn of the North. 40 to 50 people. Ross Anderson indicates Suppliers’ fund contributes approx. $2,000 per meeting. Also need mill members to contribute $50. Mill tour on Wed. Potential Technical Session:

Stuart Scott – Mill Operations. John Brazil indicates tracking costs methods would be good inclusion for this topic. Gerry Ferweda involvement? Cam Bleackley from Fletcher, Mackenzie.

Weyerhaeuser, Dryden. Current member Mike Beattie will not be here – Don Olson will contact Mike. Marathon for Spring ‘01? Jim Collins to check.

Spring ’01? Fall ’01. Crestbrook? Will ask Gavin Baxter. Fletcher, Mackenzie? Woodfibre? Pope & Talbot, Halsey, Fall ’01 or Fall ’02.

Eastern Vice-Chair

Potential Vice? Jean Bouchard? Will do it if Richard Berry agrees. Jean will need subcommittee chairman replacement. Jean subsequently got permission and will be Eastern Vice Chair to replace Don McCabe when he takes Chairmanship.
