a) Membership attendance
Doug Reeve follow-up required.
Pierre Jean will no longer be attending.
We need to determine whether Ted Tunstall, Norske, Powell River and Jeff Dyck, Skeena, Prince Rupert status.
Dave Willis to contact Rogelio Vega Canova re: whether he will be participating in Committee in future.
b) Membership mailing list
44 in total, 10 Supplier. (20% Supplier)
c) Proposed probationary members
Irene Yaraskavitch of Dow (currently probationary member) was approved as a full member.
Caren Caffrey of Solvay Interox was approved as a probationary member.
(First name?) Kjerulf was suggested as a potential member from the Abitibi, Fort Frances mill.
d) Alternates
Ross Stacey replaces Roger Bernar from Marsulex.
Vallier Simard replaced by Vincent Bacani for Smurfit, Portage-du-Fort, QC mill.
The Steering Committee suggests there should be only one alternate per mill member since experience is showing when there can be poor or spotty participation in Committee work. Don McCabe to follow-up.

4.4 SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS
a) Annual Meeting (Dan Davies)
Report on PAPTAC Annual Meeting 2001
Have two sessions, 4 papers in one and 3 in another.
O2 Delig. is first session. Second is pot pourri. Dave Willis may have one as a backup. November 17th is deadline for papers.
2003 Pros & Cons of different O2 Delig./bleaching, etc. – potential round table.
Howard Rapson Memorial Award
This year's winner "Acid Stage improves selectivity & production", Ratnieks, E. et al.
b) Internet (Chris Kanters)
Chris asked whether we should put everything into Adobe documents on our website? Will ask the larger audience during Subcommittee reports.

c) Bleaching Chemicals (Chris Kanters)
Mostly closures of existing projects now, e.g. scaling, mag. sulfate, safehandling (chlorate Sterling this meeting), Tom Mullen not here Oxidized White Liquor in BP. Hi Kappa pulping plus O2 Bleaching is an ongoing project. Will be looking for input.
d) Bleaching Equipment (Murray Walters)
5 Projects on go. Stan Heimberger re: Kappa analyzer may be presenting. ClO2 Spill Mitigation – has some response re: questionnaire. Doug Reid, pH measurement. Dennis Owen re: ClO2 analyzers. No lengthy presentations for this meeting but lots for next.
e) Bleaching Protocol (Dan Davies)
Have new protocol. Want to present to overall Committee for approval then PAPTAC will publish in ¼ news bulletin. Barbara Van Lierop was not able to get response from TAPPI re: one protocol for both Cttees. Presley indicates it went to a Cttee for approval. Maybe something resolved at the upcoming meeting.
Glossary. Dan has asked for participation.
f) Teaching Bleaching (Rae Cunnington)
Bleaching Course last week in Vancouver, BC. 19 participants all from mills.
Canfor has asked whether we could bring a mini-bleach course to PG? Will ask Subcttee. if this should be open to others – opportunity?
g) Environmental (Dave Willis)
Approached by Jeff Tolan to Chair the Cttee.
Potential presentations for this meeting. Mill closure will be Technical Session. Cluster impact re: Canadian mills. O AOX? Is 0 now 0.31? Bioreactors. Don McCabe's mill has one and can present at future date. World regulations comparison.

25 years anniversary of the Bleach Committee. Need champion for D1 and 25 years Technical Session for next meeting. (Chris Kanters suggests need Norm or Dennis or Jack Ayton). Evolution of Bleaching at Harmac? Have two Bleach Plants - maybe go through how bleaching has changed in the last 25 years and what the next 25 years will bring. Paprican could do the future.
Don McCabe would like the minutes from this session to be in Chris Kanters hands in three weeks for posting on our website.
