- April/May 1999 – Grande Prairie, Alberta
- Fall 1999 - ???, will not be in conflict with Bleaching course
- Other Business
7.1 Technical Section Reorganization
- In the past pulp and paper companies were required to be members of both the CPPA and Paprican. In February, 1998 these two organizations were disconnected, so that in the future they may have different members and different boards of directors.
- In April, the CPPA Board of Directors decided to discontinue the connection between the CPPA and the Technical Section as a professional society of pulp and papermakers. As of January 1, 1999, there will be no financial or reporting link from the Technical Section to the CPPA.
- The nine person Technical Section Executive Council will continue to oversee the work of the Technical staff and the committees for the benefits of the 7000 members. The Technical Section will continue to be a non-profit organization, but a name change is probably forthcoming.
- Question – can suppliers now become part of the Executive Council? If so, then the Technical Section may move closer to the TAPPI model where suppliers are very involved in the leadership
- Why this change? This reflects the rest of the world – Finnish, Swedish, American, Japanese and Chinese Pulp and Paper associations already use this model.
- 2000 International Pulp Bleaching Conference
- Halifax, NS – June 27-30, 2000. This may be a poor time because the Swedes and Finns are not available, North American kids are out of school, so attendance may be poor.
- Glen will take back the concerns of the committee back to CPPA and see if it is possible to change the date to allow better participation
- International Biotechnology Conference
- June 15-18, 1998 Hyatt Regency, Vancouver
- Adjournment
- the meeting was adjourned at 4:53 pm
