• No reply from John Rizzi, will send another fax. We have been sending minutes to New Zealand, but have not received any equivalent information back from NZ or Australia.

• some are sending alternates, who typically do not participate. Reminder – must get permission from chair before sending a substitute
• Chair must screen the list of attendees to ensure they are members
• Rae volunteered to do a review of all attendees

• Stuart Scott reported on feedback from last meeting, including the following
• Subcommittee meetings too large, not structured – subcommittee chair should split them into smaller groups so that all are involved in projects, then subcommittee chair should give a general overview at the business session
• Get sense of committee – should the problems and opportunity sessions be on the first day, not second

• CPPA wants a Pulp Washing course at Peace River (Western Branch)

1. W. Howard Rapson Memorial Award

• Working on criteria for the Memorial Award with Jim Collins – subcommittee will work on it at fall/98 meeting
• Will propose that the award be given at the annual meeting

1. New Business

• 2000 International Pulp Bleaching Conference – Halifax, NS – June 27-30, 2000. This may be a poor time because the Swedes and Finns are not available, North American kids are out of school, so attendance may be poor.
• Glen Black – will give update on past annual meeting, remind about corrosion seminar in Ottawa in May, Technical Section going through reorganization (spin off from CPPA)
• How are meetings financed? We need to discuss how suppliers support the committee. Stuart and Dan Davies will bring the suppliers together to discuss.
• Suggest having the mill problems and opportunities on first morning so that we can discuss them throughout the rest of the sessions – will do this at next meeting
• New Western Vice Chair required for Spring 1999 meeting. There is the potential of the next Western Vice Chair being a supplier. Stuart will discuss with potential candidates
