1. Membership discussion

• discussion on the number of mills who have not sent members. First warning letters will be sent to the following:
• Paul-Emile Lapointe, Daishowa, Quebec,PQ
• Jillian Cook, Weyerhauser, Grande Prairie, AB
• Doug Reeve, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON
• a number of Sustaining Members (suppliers) have requested membership, but admitting them all will increase our Sustaining Members percentage above the maximum 25%. However, many of the applicants would be very useful to the subcommittees. Some possibilities are:
• lifetime members will not be classed as Sustaining Members
• a limit on how long a Sustaining Member may remain on the committee?
• if not contributing to a subcommittee, then supplier should no longer be member?
• ACTION: by October 31 Subcommittee Chairmen to provide a list to Jim Collins of those Sustaining Members who are contributing, as well as those who are responding to questionaires
• new probationary member applicants:

1. Chair of Bleaching Equipment Subcommittee

• should be a mill person because two of the six Subcommittee Chairs are Sustaining Members
• ACTION: Dennis will approach Tom Fawcett to become the Chair of the Bleaching Equipment Subcommittee

1. Newsletter

• submissions are not timely, but it is a tremendous tool to keep subcommittee chairmen working on their projects
• is also a valuable tool to encourage non-attending members to become involved

1. Meeting "Feedback Forms"

• will be handed out at meeting
• Doug McKenzie will report the results in the next newsletter

1. Minutes of Meetings - does the new structure work?

• should names be in Steering Committee minutes? yes, as long as we make sure we don’t make any mistakes
• should present/absent be included? yes, since will perk up peoples’ attention

• 26 applicants as of Sep 11/95, but expect to be sold out (60 maximum)
• request from CPPA the attendance records of previous courses, and whether there have been any complaints about not having the course in the east. ACTION: Mike Luers
• CPPA Professional Development Committee members have requested they be involved on the steering committee of every CPPA course. In fact, the Bleaching Committee doesn’t have the problems that some other committee courses have, so we are not interested. ACTION: Doug McKenzie to communicate with CPPA Professional Development Committee

• Ivan Curry - spent a lot of time talking about the problems in other committees, holding out the Bleaching Committee as the model to follow
• Graham Rodden, Editor of P&P Canada, would like to publish the Bleaching Protocol

• past-chairman to set agenda? okay
• request to get Technical Sessions back to more fundamental mill stuff, eg. how to run a Do stage. ACTION: Rae Cunnington to chair a round table on "back to the basics" at the next meeting
