- met Apr/96 at Control Systems 96 conference in Halifax
- 26 people in January meeting
- the committee felt it should maintain a list of successful control applications so management will have justification for sensors and people to maintain them
- Survey paper presented at 1996 annual CPPA meeting "Successful Applications of Process Control and On-Line Pulp Quality Sensors"
- 35 mills replied, 60% on kraft; 48% reported plugging problems with sensors, but mainly due to lack of PM; 84% calibrated when the sensor broke down (how much time do they run with wrong numbers?);
- Bleaching committee members on Internet - Fall/95 = 2; Spring/96 = 19

- Chris Kanters will attempt to set up a restricted users group on the Internet for bleaching questions. He requests that anyone who is interested and knows about Internet to contact him.

5.0 Steering Committee
- liaison reports by exception - report only if something worth presenting. Chair will call all liaison reps before the meeting
- Steering Committee has decided that for future meetings we will break down subcommittee meetings into two sessions
- small meetings with subcommittee members with lots of discussion
- a summary presentation and further discussion with the full Bleaching Committee

- Doug Reeve - the new text "Pulp Bleaching: Principles and Practice", 4 years in the making, went last Friday to the printer, $100US regularly, this committee gets pre-publishing price of $90US, expect to ship by June, first print run of 3000, strong early orders
- 1996 International Pulp Bleaching Conference - 430 (down considerably from 1994 (600), substantially due to Non-chlorine and mill closure in Jan
- 1998 in Helsinki in June, Conference Chairman Tom McDonnough
- TAPPI BP operation short course (3.5 day) now annual, 135 at last, next one April 1997 in Memphis, Doug is Chairman next year
- Rogelio stepping down from Bleaching Chemicals subcommittee chair, looking for volunteers to step into this position
