    Member vote on amendment of the Association’s By-laws
    On Wednesday February 4th 2009, all voting members present at the Association’s AGM will be asked to vote on the proposed amendment of the by-laws which would allow up to a maximum of two supplier representatives to serve on the Executive Council of PAPTAC.

    The vote will take place during the AGM held in conjunction with EXFOR & Annual Meeting 2009, at 11:30 am at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. All voting members are encouraged to be present in order to cast their ballot.

    In Memoriam
    With great sadness, we have recently learned the death of the following members:

    Ford, Michael J. Passed away on November 17, 2008 at the age of sixty-four. An accomplished chemist in the Pulp and Paper industry for over forty years, Mr. Ford joined the association in 1970 while employed with Kimberly Clark of Canada Ltd.(St. Catharines, ON). During his career, Mr. Ford worked at Spruce Falls Power & Paper Co. Ltd. (now Tembec, Kapuskasing, ON); CIP Research Ltd. (Hawkesbury, ON); CIP (Gatineau, QC); New Brunswick International Paper Co (Dalhousie NB); CIP Inc. (Montreal, QC); NLK Consultants Inc. (Montreal, QC); and Mike Ford Consulting. Mr. Ford was actively involved with several TECH courses and with the Fine and Coated Paper committee. His last place of residence was Saint-Lazare, QC.

    Joss, Bert passed away on August 20, 2008. Mr. Joss joined the Association in 1950 while employed in the Technical Section of CPPA. He was the Director, Technical Services, CPPA from 1972 –1975 and was then promoted to Group Director – Production Services.

    In his forty-year career with CPPA, Mr. Joss was responsible for establishing many of the associations’ signature trademarks. These include the Journal of Pulp and Paper Science and the EXFOR tradeshow. He was instrumental in developing relationships between the Technical Section and technical associations in other countries, in particular with Japan, Sweden and Finland. He served on the Standards Council of Canada; was elected to the Board of Directors of the Institute of Association Executives and later served as Vice-President and President. In 1975 he was awarded a 25-year service plaque in appreciation of his years of service to the Industry and to the CPPA-Technical Section. In 1980 he became a TAPPI fellow. Upon his retirement in 1990, Mr. Joss became an Honorary Life member of PAPTAC. In February 2008, Mr. Joss received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the establishment of EXFOR. His last place of residence was Montreal, QC.

    Keswick, Robert Jardine Potts, passed away on April 24, 2008. Mr. Keswick joined the Association in 1946 while employed with Bathurst Power & Paper Co. Ltd. (now AbitibiBowater, Bathurst, NB). During his career he was also employed with Irving Pulp & Paper Ltd. (St. John, NB); Labrador Linerboard Ltd. (Stephenville, NL); and Stadler Hurter Limited (now KHS Solutions Inc., Montreal, QC). Mr. Keswick became an Emeritus member in 1977. His last place of residence was Bathurst, NB.

    Laberge, Paul X., passed away in Montreal on October 9, 2008. Mr. Laberge spent his entire career with Donohue Brothers Ltd. (now AbitibiBowater, Clermont, QC) where he was head engineer. He also served as President of the Quebec Branch in 1958-1959. Mr. Laberge joined the Association in 1943, and was recognized as a 50-year member in 1994. His last place of residence was La Malbaie, QC.

    Manuel, John L. joined the Association in 1960 while employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Co. Ltd. (Liverpool, NS). During his career, Mr. Manuel was also employed with The Price Company Limited (now AbitibiBowater) in Alma, QC and in Kenogami, QC; and with MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. (now Catalyst Paper) in Powell River, BC. From 1987-1996 he was V.P. and General Manager for Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. (Corner Brook, NL). He retired in 1997 and became an Emeritus member. His last place of residence was Corner Brook, NL.

    Recher, Mark passed away in February 2008. Mr. Recher joined the Association in 1987 while employed with CIP Research Ltd. (Hawkesbury, ON). Mr. Recher was also employed with Domtar Inc. Until his retirement and was an active member of the Printing and Graphic Arts Committee. His last place of residence was LaSalle, QC.

    Segré, Giuseppe joined the Association as a Consultant in 1971. He remained an active member until his death in 2008. His last place of residence was Rome, Italy.
