Student Presentation at PACWEST Conference

UBC Student Community Activity at PACWEST Conference

Six researchers from the University of British Columbia have been invited to participate in a Student Presentation Session at the 2015 PACWEST Technical Conference. The conference will be held at the Fairmont Chateau in Whistler, BC from June 10-13, with the student session currently slated for Friday June 12th at 8:30 am.
All the researchers conduct their primary research at UBC's Pulp and Paper Centre, even though their home departments are chiefly Chemical and Biological Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. They will showcase their innovative research that has the potential to make lasting changes and improve this strategically important industry. These include production of pulp strength additives from pulp mill residues, effects of chitosan and calcium hydroxide on the mechanical and microbiological properties of paper, and introduce the idea of a novel and sustainable cellulosic foam material, to name just a few.

The PACWEST Technical Conference symbolizes the interdependence of those who develop technology in the pulp and paper industry and the many suppliers of related materials and equipment. It provides an opportunity to network with peers, industry leaders and technical experts while enhancing professional development. Through the numerous sessions, short courses, roundtable discussions and the popular trade fair, participants learn about new technologies, process improvement and the latest challenges and successes of the industry.
