Most of the members are mill personnel working in production or technical capacities. Suppliers of process equipment, clothing and chemicals are also represented. Many mills in Canada are making linerboard, medium and coreboard and with modern day operating practices it is important to establish a mechanism of communication for its members that are concerned with this type of production.
Sometimes the committee will combine some on-site meetings with conference calls to keep lines of communication open among members.
Subjects for the agenda are mostly technical discussions. The kinds of common, shared issues that could be addressed include safety, productivity, paper strength issues, wet-end technologies, contaminant removal, and operating difficulties but also management issues such as: Accident prevention, maintenance, training, and employee motivation. Technical presentations are sometimes given.
The community welcomes members with good experience as well as younger members who will find it an excellent tool for personal development.
