The Howard Rapson Memorial Award is given to the authors of the best chemical pulp bleaching paper presented at the PAPTAC Annual Meeting or any other major conferences across Canada.
The winner is Marcius de Oliverira, Peace River Pulp, Canada, for his paper entitled, Bleach Plant Scale and Control - Mill Case Study, presented at the 2011 PAPTAC Annual Meeting.

DESCRIPTION
Background The Howard Rapson Memorial Award was created by the Bleaching Committee of PAPTAC in 1999, to recognize the contributions of Dr. Rapson who has committed his working life to the science and technology of chemical pulp bleaching.
Purpose and Objectives
To foster and recognize the presentation of high quality papers for advancements in the field of chemical pulp bleaching.
Nature of the Award
The award consists of a certificate supplied by PAPTAC.
Eligibility
All individuals involved in the pulp and paper or supplier industries will be eligible for this award. Any paper presented formally at a PAPTAC Annual Meeting session sponsored by the Bleaching Committee and from all major conferences across Canada, including the Congrès CFP, the Midwest Branch meeting and PACWEST, shall be considered by the judging committee.
Judging Rules
Those being judged will be evaluated on presentation as well as on the content of the papers. There is no commitment from the Bleaching Committee to give an award every year.
Judging Committee
The recipient of the award will be selected by a panel of three (3) judges from the chemical pulp bleaching industry. The judges are nominated each year by the Bleaching Committee.
Award Presentation
The winner(s) of the award will be announced at the spring Bleaching Committee meeting and an announcement will be made in the trade press. The award will be presented during the PAPTAC Annual Meeting subsequent to the meeting at which the paper was presented.
