    Environmental Strategy of the Year Award


    The 2017 Environmental Strategy of the Year Award was attributed during PaperWeek Canada 2017.

    The winner is the Domtar Windsor Mill.

    February 2019: Awards Ceremony during PaperWeek Canada’s Business Luncheon
    This award aims to recognize and reward a mill that operates under an environmentally sustainable business approach and implements an on-going strategy to provide environmental solutions.
    The award will be presented annually unless the judging committee considers that no suitable candidate has been nominated.
    The Awards are designed to reward mills and individuals involved in the pulp & paper and forest-based industry and are open to participants from across Canada. Those submitting an entry for their mill or for an individual should check with their mill management/head office to ensure they have the approval to enter the Awards.
    Submissions should be comprehensive and concise and, as a general rule, should not exceed 10 pages.

    Judging Rules
    Criteria and information to be provided for the entry:
      • Demonstration of improvement in the mill’s environmental footprint
      • Record of reducing emissions (air and water) and the impact on climate change (supporting figures and/or measurements if possible)
      • Record of reduced water consumption (provide measurements if possible)
      • Demonstration of the use of certified raw materials (FSC)
      • Overview of the mill’s philosophy and commitment toward environmental sustainability and how this impacts its relationships with clients and the community


    Judging Committee
    A select panel of judges made up of industry experts and representatives of the PAPTAC Executive Council and members will be judging entries. The judges use a specific set of criteria to review submissions in each category. Those submitting an entry should carefully review the procedure and criteria in order to submit as complete an entry as possible.  Corporate sponsors of Awards are not involved in the judging process.
