Description FPInnovations is seeking a Kraft Pulp Chemical Engineer/Scientist for the Fibre Production Research Group. Reporting to the Fibre Production Manager, this position will give the candidate a unique opportunity to develop valuable, world-class scientific and technical expertise applied in an industrial context.
Responsabilities Our Fibre Production team’s mandate is to deliver pulp manufacturing innovations that meet both short and longer-term research goals through technology development and deployment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: • Leading the research and delivery of innovative solutions in the areas of kraft pulping, brownstock washing and bleaching to both our member and non-member company mills; • Leading teams and overseeing the facilities required to deliver collaborative research programs and contracts; • Implementing innovation aimed at cost reduction and pulp quality modifications/improvements in our customers’ businesses; • Ensuring that research projects have strong value propositions, and maximising the delivery of research products that bring the highest benefit to our member companies; • Delivering projects within the associated scope, budget and timeline; • Providing written reports and relevant communication to our research partners; • Supporting the Manager in research management and new revenue generation; • Conducting, supervising and proposing research and development projects in a laboratory and pilot scale environment, working with pulp mills, conducting mill testing or trials, assisting with implementation of process changes in the mill and validating benefits.
Qualifications • Ph.D. or applied Master’s Degree in engineering or science and minimum 3 years of related experience in the kraft pulp industry, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; • Demonstrated success in industrial scale projects, innovation development and deployment; • Demonstrated leadership; • Experience in coaching and mentoring technical personnel; • Strong customer focus, with a proven track record in developing and maintaining client relationships; • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high standards for quality; • Available for national and international business travel as required.
