PAPTAC - Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada

    Launch of J-FOR

The Journal of Science and Technology for Forest Products and Processes

    Dear readers,

J-FORIt is with great enthusiasm that we are announcing the upcoming launch of J-FOR: The Journal of Science and Technology for Forest Products and Processes.
J-FOR will publish peer-reviewed articles of the highest quality, dealing with the science and technology of traditional and emerging areas that are pertinent to the forest industry.

Building on the strong reputation that the Journal of Pulp and Paper Science has acquired over the years, J-FOR will succeed JPPS as PAPTAC’s preeminent and flagship publication, and will incorporate a broader scope of target areas and bring together a wider range of scientific, technological and technical papers.

With a strong team of expert reviewers and associate editors, led by Dr. Honghi Tran, Frank Dottori Professor of Pulp & Paper Engineering, University of Toronto as Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Paul Stuart, Chairholder of the NSERC Design Engineering Chair at École Polytechnique de Montréal as Deputy Editor, J-FOR will cover the following areas:

Traditional Areas: (covering all pulping processes, both wood and non-wood)

    1. Pulping, bleaching and papermaking fundamentals, processes and technologies
    2. Energy and chemical recovery fundamentals, processes and technologies
    3. Recycled fibre and recycling technology
    4. Development of sensors, analytical methods and process control logics
    5. Mill water and energy usages and optimization
    6. Environmental concerns and their mitigation

    Emerging Forestry Areas:

    1. Emerging forest-based products and their chains of added value
    2. Fundamentals of converting forest-based biomass into biofuels and other bioproducts
    3. Nanotechnology and other high added-value processes
    4. Development of chemical, biochemical and thermochemical processes for the forestry industry
    5. Integrating emerging and sustainable processes into the pulp and paper industry
    6. Harvesting and procurement of forest and other biomass feedstocks

Please note that information and details regarding the subscription to J-FOR for 2011 will be sent shortly to all current JPPS subscribers. In the meantime, requests for more information can be sent to Greg Hay, PAPTAC Executive Director at the above coordinates.

As this final issue brings to a close the publication of the Journal of Pulp and Paper Science, we would like to thank all those that were part of the JPPS enterprise over the past 29 years. We wish to thank the group of associate editors for their expertise, dedication and tremendous work over the years and in particular, Dr. Derek Page, the Scientific Editor until 2009, and the late Bert Joss who showed great vision and leadership when they founded the Journal in 1983 and made it the respected publication it became.

Thank you once again for your interest and support of PAPTAC’s flagship publication and we look forward to bringing you its successor, J-FOR, in the coming months.

    Yours sincerely,
