Workforce renewal is a growing need in the industry and it’s not showing signs of disappearing. A labour market report by the Forest Products Sector Council, indicates that the industry will have to fill up to 120 000 positions over the next decade.
This presents the backdrop to this important challenge of the coming years, for which PAPTAC and its industry partners wish to play an active role and utilize the visibility of PaperWeek Canada’s national platform |
PAPTAC announces initiative for free student membership in the Association

The staff from PAPTAC and the CIFQ (Quebec's Forest Industry Council) visited the Domtar Windsor mill earlier this week and had a forest tour as well as a tour of the mill's installations, including the newly built NCC plant. Staff from both organizations also took the opportunity to meet and discuss with the mill's employees and share some of the current objectives and recent developments in the industry.
Éric Ashby, Mill Manager, André Tremblay, CIFQ's President & CEO and Greg Hay, PAPTAC Director also met to discuss potential areas where both organizations could work together and develop a collaboration for the benefit of the industry and the renewal of its workforce. |
PAPTAC to support the Atlantic Branch Student Bursary

PAPTAC is pleased to announce its support of the Atlantic Branch Student Bursary. The $1000 annual bursary is applicable to students who are registered for full-time studies during the 2012-2013 academic year and who have completed one or more work terms with PAPTAC Member Mills or Affiliates. Applications will need to include a cover letter stating the student's interest in the Pulp and Paper Industry in Atlantic Canada; a resume outlining the educational background, work experience, and community involvement; and a copy of unofficial transcripts. UBC to Lead Future Workforce Program at PaperWeek 2013

The University of British Columbia, in collaboration with PAPTAC, will lead the Future Workorce Program at the 2013 edition of PaperWeek Canada. In partnership with the PAPIER organization (the Canadian Pulp and Paper Network for Innovation in Education and Research), representing the main University Pulp and Paper Centres in Canada with UBC, UofT, McMaster, Lakehead U, École Polytechnique, UQTR, McGill and UNB, PaperWeek will feature an extensive program including Student Conferences and a Job Fair, focused on the Future Workforce of the industry - an increasingly important issue for the industry of tomorrow. |
