    About FPInnovations

FPInnovations is among the world’s largest private, non-profit research centers working in the forest industry. The organization helps the Canadian forest industry to develop ground-breaking solutions based on the unique attributes of Canada’s forest resources, favoring a sustainable development approach and taking full advantage of the industry’s considerable scientific, technological and commercial capital.

The FPInnovations collaborative research program is a pillar of our success, and is directly supported by the industrial membership base. Attracting and maintaining membership is crucial to the success of our organization. Indeed, our five year Strategic Action Plan (SAP) recognizes the importance of membership for our new integrated business model, where we target 65% of the national production being in membership. Within the framework of the SAP, the Alberta Liaison of Member Company Relations for Alberta aims at increasing the membership base of FPInnovations.

The scientist/FPLR (Alberta), Market Pulp Member Company Relations, reports directly to the Research Manager for the Market Pulp group and is responsible for all aspects of member company relations, with the objective of maintaining member satisfaction and value delivery. This liaison role provides the critical link to accelerate FPI’s project execution and delivery and the member mills’ implementation.

To maintain alignment between FPInnovations and its member companies in Alberta, it is essential that we develop our relationships with the members at the executive and operating levels, in terms of satisfaction, expectations, priorities and strategic direction. To achieve this, the scientist/FPLR ensures that the Research Manager and other key FPI staff meet annually with the corporate level of each member company to review the business relationship, confirm the corporate priorities and evaluate value delivery. The scientist/FPLR also acts as an advocate for the members within the FPInnovations organization.

A key role for the scientist/FPLR is to develop a deep understanding of the FPInnovations’ program in detail, and simultaneously member company’s needs, in order to assist the total team to select Tx and Core allocations effectively to reach the target 3:1 ROI on member fees.

The scientist/FPLR will promote and develop relationships with the Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF) team, and work closely together with the Provincial Leader for FPInnovations. The scientist/FPLR visits every member mill in Alberta as required, at least monthly during the course of a year and will assist in the editing of the bi-annual Research Progress Report and the Research Highlights.

The specific objectives for the first year will be: 

Work with the Research Manager to accelerate the implementation of project outcomes at Alberta Pacific, and assist the mill team to extract greater value from each FPI project. 
Complete the new scientist/FPLR apprentice training program; 
Follow procedures to make sure that member priorities and issues are being actively addressed through updating and use of the dashboard and master plan; 
Review strategy for each member company; 
Streamline communications with the Alberta membership, with special focus on Alberta Pacific in Boyle.

    Qualifications 

Bachelor degree in science, engineering or technology; a post-graduate degree is an asset; 
Experience working with R&D teams; 
Minimum 3 years of experience, with strong technical background and extensive experience in pulp, paper and biomaterials operations; 
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain credibility and trust with member company staff in terms of their relationship with FPI; 
Strong record of research, developing and implementing technologies and scientific publication; 
