TMP Process Engineer - Albert Newsprint Company
Chad Gurney has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from UBC. He worked at a lumber mill and plywood plant as weekend clean up duty and summer relief before beginning a career in the pulp and paper industry in 1993. Chad started at Fibreco Pulp as a Shift Technologist testing pulp quality then worked as an Environmental Technologist and then onto Refiner Technologist.
In 1999 Chad came to Albert Newsprint Company as a Lab Technician and moved into a Project Technician position for the TMP plant. In 2001 he became a Junior Process Engineer. Chad worked with Pacific Simulation to integrate the first Bleach Plant Model Predictive Control in North America at the ANC mill.
At the 2004 Pacwest Conference he presented a paper on this control in conjunction with BTG. Working closely with operations in an integrated Pulp and Paper mill has been a rewarding journey for Chad whether it being over seeing sludge press rebuilds, responsible for thickener repair/maintenance or mill representative of customer service for paper quality. Chad is currently TMP Process Engineer actively working on enhancing pulp fibre quality and implementing energy saving measures.
