    Don Olson
    Process Engineering Superintendent and Energy Manager at Cariboo Pulp and Paper

    Don Olson is a UBC Chemical Engineering graduate with 31 years of contribution to the industry. Don started his career in 1980 at Crofton Pulp and Paper mill, where he worked as both a Process Engineer and as a Process Control Engineer throughout the Kraft mill and Paper mill. 

    From Crofton Don transferred to Mackenzie Kraft in 1992, first as the Technical Superintendent, then as the Bleach Plant & Machine Room Superintendent.
    In 1999 Don transferred to Vancouver to work at the Norske Skog head office while studying for his MBA at Simon Fraser University. He was part of the management team that combined Pacifica and Norske Skog into the new company Catalyst.
    In 2002 Don left Catalyst to return to his first career in Process Engineering at Cariboo Pulp & Paper. He is currently the Process Engineering Superintendent and Energy Manager at Cariboo.

    During his working career Don has served the industry through active participation in Paptac. He has been a member since 1987. While working at Crofton he served four years on the Paptac Pacific Coast Branch executive. While in Mackenzie he spent seven years on the executive of the Paptac Bleaching Committee, receiving a 2001 Certificate of Appreciation for “Leadership in Support of the Bleaching Committee”. In both 2005 and in 2009 Don received the H.R. MacMillan Memorial Award for “Best Technical Paper” at the PacWest Conference. And for the period 2006-2008 Don was appointed a Councillor on the Paptac Executive Council. He has been the Paptac mill champion at Cariboo since 2004, and has recently negotiated a deal with Paptac so that a large number of interested Cariboo employees could become members for one lump sum.
