This Webinar presents the basic aspects of reeling and winding of paper. The basic mechanisms and the different types of winders will be presented. Different methods to evaluate the quality of winding will also be discussed. The webinar will also cover the most common problems related to reeling and winding and the importance of paper uniformity in these operations. This webinar is for technical mill staff (operators, engineers, technicians) that have a basic knowledge of paper machines but want to know more about the importance of reeling/winding operations on the quality of the final product.

Frederic Parent, Research Leader for the Web Performance Group at FPInnovations, received his Master degree in mechanical engineering (M.Sc.A.) from École Polytechnique de Montréal in 1997.

Since joining FPInnovations (formely the pulp and paper division Paprican) in 2000, his research activities have centered on paper machine runnability, and investigating how roll structure and web uniformity affects reeling and winding performance and also pressroom performance.
His research activities led to the development of the Roll Testing Facility and more recently the Web and Roll Center.

He is a member of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC) and the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
