PAPTAC announces incoming TC chairmen for 2012 |
Paul Earl | Bleaching | Dr. Paul Earl is an independent consultant with 25 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry. Paul has carried out over 130 bleach plant process audits and more than fifteen soda-sulfur balance models in more than 40 pulp mills, helping clients to optimize their use of chemicals and decrease operating costs.
Paul has worked in pulp & paper since 1984, when he began graduate studies at the University of Toronto Pulp & Paper Centre. Under the supervision of Professor Douglas Reeve, he obtained a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, on the topic of pulp bleaching. Paul has been an instructor at PAPTAC and TAPPI bleaching courses; he was the course coordinator for the last PAPTAC Chemical Pulp Bleaching Course, and the course leader for the 2011 PacWest Bleaching Course. Sébastien Lafourcade

Sébastien Lafourcade has over 10 years of experience in energy efficiency in the pulp and paper industry. Process engineer with a major in pulp and paper, he has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal on energy and water conservation in newsprint mills. He is currently the managing director of Pepite Technologies (a company providing energy solution to industry) and has done energy projects with more than 20 mills across North America. Sébastien has a strong expertise in pulp and paper processes, energy efficiency and energy management in industry, data analysis techniques, as well as in continuous improvement and performance management. |

Pierre Martel | Environment | Pierre Martel is a biologist with the Aquatic Biology Laboratory of FPInnovations since 1989. He is specialised in the investigation of causes and solutions to acute and chronic toxicity problems in aquatic organisms exposed to pulp and paper mill effluents. His expertise is in regulatory toxicity tests, the identification of causes of acute toxicity, chronic effects of effluents on fish populations in the receiving environment and more recently he focuses on investigations of causes for effects on fish reproduction identified by the federal Environmental Effects Monitoring (EEM) program and the identification of potential solutions. He holds BSc degree in biology from Concordia University, a MSc degree in environmental hygiene from Université de Montréal and a PhD in biology from Université catholique de Louvain. Dave Jones | Paperboard Packaging | David has worked for Buckman Canada for 28 years starting in sales and then moving to a technical support role. David has a BSc from Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON. David has been active in a number of PAPTAC communities including Fine and Coated Paper and Recycling. David recently took over the chair for PAPTAC's Paperboard Packaging Community and looks forward to a successful year.
David has presented and authored a number of papers on subjects that include deinking, deposit control and enzymes. Visit this Community > |

Steve Goldstein | Paper Machine Technology | With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Steve completed studies at York University in Toronto Computer Science in 1982.
He began working in the pulp and paper industry (formerly Domtar) in 1982 as production operator and was promoted to Production Supervisor in 1996.
He Served as Technical Supervisor (production) one year, worked in Continuous Improvement for two years and in R&D for one year.
Steve earned a technical certificate from Sault College in 2001 and served as Instructor for Cascades Training Centre teaching Pulp and Paper Science for new entrants into the paper industry.
Involved in several external mill operations projects for optimization (Toronto, Trenton, Versailles Ct.), Steve is currently employed by Norampac Inc. Mississauga Division.
