Launch of the world’s first cellulose filament (CF) demonstration plant at Kruger’s Trois‐Rivières Mill


 

Kruger Inc. together with FPInnovations unveiled today the world’s first cellulose filament (CF) demonstration plant at Kruger’s Trois ‐Rivières Mill. PAPTAC was among the invited guests at this successful ceremony, which was attended by a hundred participants representing the media and other industry players. Eminent dignitaries honored the ceremony: Mr. Laurent Lessard, Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks; Mr. Jean‐Denis Girard, Deputy Member for Trois‐Rivières, Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises; Mr. Dave Peterson, B.C’s Chief Forester and Assistant Deputy Minister, Tenures, Competitiveness and Innovations, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations; Mr. Pierre Lapointe, President and CEO of FPInnovations; and Mr. Daniel Archambault, Executive Vice President and COO of Kruger’s Industrial Products Division and Chairman of PAPTAC. Mr. Archambault thanked all the players who made possible this big new project, which will be in force for the next 3 years. He recognized both public and private investors, as well as the personnel from Kruger and FPInnovations. Archambault stated that the setting up of the first CF plant is ‘a good opportunity to reinforce the forest industry and the government’s partnership’.

About CF: CF is a new material extracted from wood pulp fibres that is revolutionary because of its unique properties and it will allow to go beyond traditional markets and tackle new products. The five ton/day plant will provide enough CF tonnage to permit commercialization and application development.

The Papermaking Technology Community of PAPTAC is pleased to announce the 6th Edition of the Seminar on Improving Paper Machine Efficiency and Productivity, that will take place Feb. 5-6, during PaperWeek Canada 2015, in Montreal, QC.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR
Operating a paper machine is a complicated and complex task in which many variables must be known, understood and adjusted on a regular basis in order to obtain optimal results in terms of productivity, customer satisfaction and profitability. Eminent specialists will present what should be measured and optimized in a successful operation, and will present data from poor, average and good operations. The preliminary program will be announced in the near future.
