UBC to Lead Future Workforce Program at PaperWeek 2013

The University of British Columbia, in collaboration with PAPTAC, will lead the Future Workorce Program at the 2013 edition of PaperWeek Canada. (www.paperweekcanada.ca). In partnership with the PAPIER organization (the Canadian Pulp and Paper Network for Innovation in Education and Research), representing the main University Pulp and Paper Centres in Canada with UBC, UofT, McMaster, Lakehead U, École Polytechnique, UQTR, McGill and UNB, PaperWeek will feature an extensive program including Student Conferences and a Job Fair, focused on the Future Workforce of the industry - an increasingly important issue for the industry of tomorrow.
Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Short Courses at the the
upcoming PACWEST Conference


Three short courses will be offered as part of the next PACWEST conference on May 30th, in Jasper, AB.

SHORT COURSE #1: Brown Stock Washing & Screening, Brian Gallagher, GL&V
SHORT COURSE #2: Process Control Optimization - An Introduction, Doug Neilson, ProNamics Controls
SHORT COURSE #3: Continuous Cooking - Principles & Practices, Philip Anderson, Metso

These courses are of great value and will provide participants with a broad understanding of the fundamentals involved in these areas and practical tools on how to evaluate systems operations, improve performance and results, and further develop operating skills. In Memory of
D. Leslie Jones and Robert Herdman


D. Leslies Jones passed away on October 27, 2011 in Ayers Cliff, QC at age 77. Leslie Jones was an active member of many technical associations with the pulp and paper community throughout his career, including PAPTAC. We take this opportunity to recognize the Jones family who has been a part of this industry for many years with Douglas Jones, Leslie's father, who was manager of PAPTAC (then CPPA Technical Section) for 30 years, and Leslie's son, Doug, who currently works with Metso and who is also a long-standing member of PAPTAC.

Robert Herdman, 85, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Herdman was a PAPTAC member since 1956, and worked at Bowater all his career until he retired in 1990.
