LAUNCH OF "J-FOR"
The Journal of Science and Technology for Forest Products and Processes

It is with great enthusiasm that we are announcing the upcoming launch of J-FOR: The Journal of Science and Technology for Forest Products and Processes. Scheduled for its first issue in August 2011, J-FOR will publish peer-reviewed articles of the highest quality, dealing with the science and technology of traditional and emerging areas that are pertinent to the forest industry.

Building on the strong reputation that the Journal of Pulp and Paper Science has acquired over the years, J-FOR will succeed JPPS as PAPTAC’s preeminent and flagship publication, and will incorporate a broader scope of target areas and bring together a wider range of scientific, technological and technical papers.

BLEACHING COMMUNITY - Spring 2011 Meeting Recap

Domtar graciously hosted the Spring 2011 PAPTAC Bleaching Community meeting, May 16-18, at Espanola Ontario. Community members discussed Green Energy Projects and Bleach Filtrate Recycle during the technical session. The afternoon Problems & Opportunities session was as popular as ever with lots of give and take.

Extraction filtrate recycle caused an animated discussion. Many members continued to discuss filtrate recycle during breaks and it even came up again later in the meeting. All signs that a good topic was chosen by the group for this meeting.

On Wednesday the group toured Domtar Espanola. As usual it was good to see a process in action. As an added bonus the group learned about the history of the mill, how it was used as a POW camp in WWII and got to see an early turn of the 20th century turbine generator with exposed windings.

After the tour the group departed and looks forward to the Fall Meeting at the Alpac mill (Sept. 26-28). The topic this time – Process Control. You don’t want to miss it!
